NHS patient charges

What you pay, and when you pay nothing.

These are the standard England charges set by the Department of Health and Social Care, correct from 1 April 2026. A course of treatment is charged once, even if it takes several visits — as long as the visits are within two months.

Band 1
£27.90

Examination, diagnosis, advice, and a scale and polish where clinically needed. Also the charge for an urgent or emergency appointment.

Band 2
£76.60

Everything in Band 1, plus fillings, root canal treatment, and extractions. Most routine treatment falls here.

Band 3
£332.10

Everything in Bands 1 and 2, plus crowns, bridges, dentures, and laboratory-made appliances.

Urgent appointment
£27.90

For pain or a problem that needs seeing quickly. Covers examination and treatment to get you out of trouble.

You do not pay NHS dental charges if, when treatment starts, you are:

  • under 18, or under 19 and in full-time education
  • pregnant, or have had a baby in the last 12 months
  • getting Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, or Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • getting Universal Credit and your household income is within the allowed limit
  • named on a valid HC2 certificate (full help), or an HC3 certificate (partial help)
Please bring proof with you. We are required to ask for evidence — an exemption certificate, a benefit award notice, a maternity exemption certificate (MatEx), or a valid HC2/HC3. If you claim an exemption you are not entitled to, you may be issued with a penalty charge of up to £100 plus the original treatment charge. If you are unsure, ask us before treatment starts and we will check it with you.
Figures shown are the England charges effective 1 April 2026. NHS dental charges are set nationally and are not set by this practice.

Private care

A plan for people who would rather spread the cost.

Going private does not mean unpredictable bills. The Kirkgate Care Plan covers your routine care for a fixed monthly amount, and we publish our private fee guide so you can see the numbers before you sit in the chair.

Per adult. Children can be added from £9.50 a month.

  • Two examinations and two hygienist visits a year

Our phones

Someone answers. At 6pm, at the weekend, at 3am.

Between a third and a half of calls to dental practices come in when nobody is at the desk — and those are often the people in pain. Our reception line is answered around the clock: during opening hours by our own team, and outside them by an assistant that can book, reschedule and take a message properly rather than dropping you into a voicemail box.

0
Calls missed last month
0

Median time to answer

The assistant tells every caller it is an automated service, never gives clinical advice, and hands anything urgent straight to a human during opening hours. Everything it does is logged so we can check it — and so can the CQC.

Out-of-hours call · Tuesday 21:14Live

Demonstration only. In live use, appointment slots, clinicians and patient records come from your practice management system, and no clinical advice is given by the assistant.

  • ▪ HTM 01-05 for decontamination — our sterilisation room is validated and every cycle is logged.

  • ▪ Medical emergencies — a trained first-aid team on site at all times, with oxygen, a defibrillator and emergency drugs checked weekly.
Your data

We are the data controller for your records and we handle them under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We keep dental records for 11 years from your last appointment, and records for children until their 25th birthday, in line with NHS guidance. You can ask to see your records at any time and we will respond within one month, free of charge. We do not sell your data or use it for marketing without your separate, explicit consent.

Our full privacy notice — including what we share with NHS Business Services Authority for charge checking — is available at reception or on request.

Complaints

If something goes wrong, please tell us. Ask for Priya Chandra, our practice manager, in person, by phone or in writing. We acknowledge complaints within 3 working days and give a full written response within 10 working days. If we cannot resolve it you can take it further:

  • ▪ Private treatment — the Dental Complaints Service on 03456 120 540.
  • ▪ Any concern about safety or quality — the Care Quality Commission, which can be contacted directly and independently of us.
Accessibility. We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 AA on this website and to meet our duties under the Equality Act 2010. This site has been built with keyboard navigation, visible focus states, resizable text, and a light and dark theme. If you need information from us in large print, easy-read, audio or another language, please ask at reception and we will provide it — there is no charge. If you find anything on this site that you cannot use, tell us and we will fix it or give you the information another way.

New patients

We are taking on new private patients, and children on the NHS.

Our NHS list for adults is currently full, and we will tell you that honestly rather than adding you to a waiting list that does not move. Children, and adults who are already registered with us, are unaffected.
